Men’s Information and Support Association (MISA) is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides a range of specialised counselling and support services as well as information and referral services, for all men, women, families, and children in the community. Since its inception in 1997 in Strathpine Northern Brisbane, MISA has provided a safe and supportive environment where men can express themselves with confidence and security.
While specialising in working respectfully with men in the community, MISA regards the contribution of women, families, friends and children as important and endeavours to include all parties in the healing and development process.
Counsellors and support staff undertake individual, relationship, and family counselling and group courses in parenting and anger management. MISA generally makes referrals to other service providers for men in need of accommodation, family court and other legal matters, relationship problems, gambling and so on.
Although MISA is partially fee based, and will charge for some services, it will ensure access for any parties experiencing financial difficulties. This is part of our commitment to support men from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. MISA is well supported and funded by the Department of Social Services Family and Relationships Services as part of the department’s Stronger Outcomes for Families Initiative.
